Finding Home
After my mentally ill husband went missing and life abruptly unraveled, my dog and I became involuntarily homeless. We turned the resulting situation into a grand adventure! This adventure lasted for the next 28 months, during which time we called some 40-ish different places “home” across the United States (and a little bit of Mexico, too).
We tent camped, car camped, squatted, couchsurfed, overstayed our welcome with friends, strangers, and good samaritans, and hunkered down in many motels along the way. Anticipating that it was going to be the journey of a lifetime, I began snapping photos of the view from many of the places we stayed. The final image below looks out from the front door of the Colorado apartment we were fortunate to get to permanently call our own in the end–where we spent two and half blissful years before my dog passed away, drifting peacefully to sleep inside that very doorway as the summer sunshine danced on his fur.
